The green thumb of Karnala, “Fort and Bird Sanctuary”

Getting There: Drive or Ride into the Wild

Karnala is conveniently located about 55 km from Mumbai and just 13 km from Panvel, making it easily accessible by both personal and public transport.

  • By Own Vehicle:
Take the Mumbai–Goa Highway (NH-66) and keep an eye out for the Karnala Bird Sanctuary signage after passing Panvel. The sanctuary entrance is just off the highway and has designated parking space. Travel time from Mumbai is roughly 1.5 hours, depending on traffic.

  • By Train & Bus:
Reach Panvel Station (on the Harbour Line and Konkan Railway), then hop into a State Transport bus or an auto-rickshaw headed towards Karnala. Most buses bound for Pen or Alibaug pass Karnala, so ask to be dropped at the Sanctuary Gate. Shared autos also operate frequently and are budget-friendly for solo travelers.

Whether you're steering your own adventure or hopping in with fellow trekkers, Karnala welcomes all paths with equal charm.

Would you like me to design a compact travel guide tile or map snippet to pair with this? We could even create mini “pre-trek prompts” to heighten anticipation.
