As you scale up the altitude, get soaked in a misty atmosphere. Tiny rain drops and monsoon clouds envelop you and at times open up their curtains to wide landscapes. Finally, as you approach the summit cross sunrise point to reach the unique and rich flora and fauna forest on the mountain head (Matheran – which literally translates in Marathi as “Forest on Mountain Head”). This unspoiled hill station is a nature sanctuary that still maintains a no-entry zone for polluting vehicles. You can explore the small hustle and bustle of the colorful Matheran market for some local handicrafts and chikki etc. Also, hunt around for some local rural delicacies for lunch.

Eco Tourism Policy:
" Leave only footprints and take only Memories"

About an hour’s journey from Panvel station takes us to Dodhani village which will be our base village for this trek. The village is situated at the foothills of Matheran and you can get a view of Chanderi Fort and Peb Fort from here. During monsoon and early winter, this is a very scenic trek where you will gradually gain altitude and enter Matheran from Sunset point.
Matheran’s mean forest over mountain head is an eco-sensitive zone full of greenery and vibrant colors of Nature, People, and a very vibrant main street too. During monsoon, this place has a magical and mystic beauty about it with mountains playing hide-and-seek behind rain clouds.
This hill station is also very unique, as it has been declared by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India. It is Asia's only automobile-free hill station.
Dodhani Point is also known as Sunset point from here Prabalgad Fort / Kalavantin Durg / Irshalgad / Karnala Fort / Morbe Dam are visible.

This is an uphill trek that takes you through grass patches and paddy fields; a small waterfall and a temple. Once you reach sunset point, Matheran’s main bazaar is another 3.5 km walk from the sunset point.
